Many opportunities to export cassava Argentina

Cassava consumption of large Argentina, not only for traditional baking Chipa but also provide raw materials for the food industry (especially in sausage), chemical industry, pharmaceutical and textile industry .
Cassava consumption of Argentina large, imported 300,000 tonnes per year while production was only 70,000 tons and 17,000 tons of cassava starch

- Argentine imports from Paraguay mainly cassava with 65% of turnover
- Vietnam new market penetration Argentina a few years ago and modest quantities.
According to the American Market Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Argentina was one of the first exporters of agricultural and food products leading, export products mainly include: soybeans, barley, sunflower seeds, corn, rice and cotton. However, cassava production is very limited, mostly cooperatives and small producers, no major growing regions, so low cassava yields. Output reached only 70,000 tons per year and 17,000 tons of cassava starch.
Cassava consumption of large Argentina, not only for traditional baking Chipa but also provide raw materials for the food industry (especially in sausage), chemical industry, pharmaceutical and textile industry . Annual demand of Argentine imports reached almost 300,000 tonnes. 2014, though to minimize the import but the import volume of Argentina starch reached 250,000 tonnes, nearly 3 million.
In particular, imports mainly from Paraguay (65% of turnover and 1.8 million), Brazil, United States, Thailand and Vietnam. This result is due to Paraguay with many advantages as Mecosur bloc tariff benefit, favorable geographical position.
Vietnam has exported goods to Argentina a few years ago, is a modest number, 2014 153 tonnes exported cassava and reached nearly $ 100,000. Thailand is also the Asian countries export cassava in Argentina, in 2014 exports totaled 112 418 tonnes, nearly $ 600,000, more than 7.5 times in volume and in value 6 times compared with exports Vietnam .
Argentina have policies promoting cassava production but production by small-scale cooperatives and family should yield not enough for domestic consumption. On the other hand the price of cassava is twice that of Argentina versus imported cassava should not encourage people to plant cassava.
Import duties applicable to the countries of starch products and products made from cassava 1a 10%, particularly in intra Mecorsur is 0%. This is a common problem for foreign investors when commodity exports in Argentina. Currently, Argentina is in a very difficult period, imports tightened to hold the balance of payments.
While exporters of Vietnam faced many difficulties such as high import duties subject of intra Mecosur more; remote geographical distance, but also has many advantages such as Argentina still needs to import raw materials and competitive prices competitive so we are still capable of boosting exports to Argentina.
